Integra Telecom Deploys Tekelec's Switching Platforms

Tekelec distributed Class 4/5 switching solutions enable cost-effective expansion for fast-growing CLEC serving Midwest, Mountain, Pacific Northwest regions.

Morrisville, N.C - Mar. 30, 2005 - Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced Integra Telecom is deploying multiple Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solutions support network expansion and enable the operator to provide next-generation services.

Integra Telecom is a rapidly growing, integrated communications carrier providing voice and data services to thousands of small- and medium-sized business customers in Minnesota, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The operator has commercially deployed Tekelec's multimedia gateway and controller in Salt Lake City to "cap and grow" its legacy switching equipment. Integra will install the distributed Tekelec 9000 DSS platforms in four additional cities by the end of this year.

"Tekelec provides a true, next-generation solution to help us expand our network to support our rapidly growing customer base," said Dave Bennett, vice president of engineering, Integra Telecom. "The combined media gateway and controller also positions us to deploy next-generation services while maintaining the quality of our existing business-class voice and data services."

Tricia Hosek, president and general manager of Tekelec's Switching Solutions Group, added, "We worked closely with Integra Telecom to develop a solution that would transition gracefully to next-generation while maintaining feature parity for its current services. Tekelec's distributed switching solutions support today and tomorrow's networks, allowing our customers to grow existing services, enter new markets and deliver competitive and revenue-generating services."

About Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution

The Tekelec 9000 DSS provides a now and next-generation switching solution that allows carriers to offer voice services to subscribers at affordable prices. The platform costs significantly less than comparable legacy switches-between one-third and one-half as much-and carriers can realize up to a 70 percent reduction in operational costs. The carrier-grade solution delivers key applications such as full-feature interexchange carrier (IXC) tandem, Class 4/5, primary rate interface (PRI) offload, packet/cell switching, and voice over broadband (VoB) services all on a distributed platform. It has both circuit (TDM) and packet fabrics and supports all of the regulatory requirements of a legacy system, including local number portability (LNP), the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), and Enhanced 911 (E911), enabling a graceful migration from traditional circuit-based networks to next-generation packet-based technology such as asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and Internet protocol (IP).
